Job description
The IBM Australia Development Lab (ADL) plays a key role in developing and 
supporting IBM software products. ADL has skilled technical teams in locations 
around Australia engaged in every facet of software product development and 
support. This creative talent is a driving force in bringing new products to 
market and its support teams deliver to a world-class standard. ADL works 
closely with other IBM research and development sites, services and support 
teams around the world, often managing multi-cultural, global teams and 
assisting high-profile clients world-wide. ADL also has links to many of the 
top Australian universities and sponsors various collaborative activities at 
all levels.

ADL has teams in IBM locations in the Gold Coast, Sydney, Canberra, Perth, 
and Melbourne. Each team works on a diverse range of software products from 
operating systems to open source software, representing all the major brands 
in IBM Software Group and from the Systems and Technology Group.

While each location is unique in the innovative products it supports and the 
skills required, you can expect to work in small dynamic teams, supporting 
the products in all stages of the software development lifecycle. For a 
graduate with first rate qualifications, ADL can offer many opportunities to

roles with a choice of career paths - you could find yourself working on 
security software, or devising business applications of the future, or 
creating a range of products never previously considered. Graduates who join 
ADL get hands-on experience installing and testing products, fixing defects, 
writing project documentation, diagnosing and resolving client problems, 
designing and developing code components and providing technical support to 
clients across A/NZ, Asia and around the world.

With your excellent customer service and communication skills, you will have 
the opportunity to interact with other teams and engineers engaged in 
innovative product development and technical support across ADL and worldwide. 
ADL is a multi-cultural environment and there will be chances for you to use 
your language skills. Opportunities for short periods of travel in Australia 
and overseas may arise from time to time.

You will be considered for one the Graduate roles
 - If you are due to graduate, or have graduated from an Australian/ New 
   Zealand university within the past 18 months
 - No more than 2 years relevant work experience
 - Have a strong academic record ie credit average (65% or above)
 - Have permanent residency or are a citizen of Australia or NZ

With a degree in one of the following:
 - Engineering (Electrical/Computer Systems/Software Engineering);
 - Science (Electrical/Computer Systems);
 - Information Technology

Knowledge in 1 or more is mandatory:
 - C, C++, C#
 - Java
 - Procedural languages

Knowledge in 2 or more is preferred:
 - Operating systems principles
 - Unix/Linux development environments
 - Windows development environments
 - System zTM (mainframe) systems and development environments
 - Web Server Technology
 - Networking
 - Relational Databases
 - Multi-threaded programming

Knowledge in these technologies would be advantageous:
 - Scripting Languages
 - Security Technologies
 - UML Modeling
 - Web application development
 - Web services and SOA

An understanding of the principles of software development and software 
engineering is highly desirable. IBM is an international organisation and 
additional language skills will assist your application.
