Recording Animation at Curtin.
Curtin University of Technology Technical Report number 5 1990.

Abstract

This document is one of a series of technical reports describing the Computer Animation Negus (CAN) Raytrace System. The image generation of the Raytrace System is described in Image Generation using the Computer Animation Negus Raytracing System by Marriott and Dench. The farming of the animation is described in Farming Raytrace Animation at Curtin by Marriott.

This document details the way in which frames produced in the Curtin Graphics environment can be recorded onto 1" video tape. The individual frames are compressed (run length encoded and then temporally compressed), copied to a special PC via ethernet and then transferred to the tape frame at a time. This document also details how "screen" can be used to record animated frames via the Vista board. It also gives examples of techniques that can be used to produce complex animation with minimal effort.
